More About Arivu Bharat

Introduction To Arivu Bharat

Arivu Bharat is an organisation committed to Social reforms. Its main focus is on eradicating untouchable practices in rural India. Started in 2014, Arivu Bharat is creating awareness among the people who are still practicing untouchability. Due to its continuous efforts many homes, temples in Karnataka, Andra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, have become untouchability free spaces. Gruhapravesha, Sahabhojana(Common Dinning), Tea for equality, Temple entry, Oath by Students, One village and one water etc are some the programs started by Arivu Bharat. It has conducted programs in more than 500 villages.

India is changing. But untouchables have remained untouchables in rural India even in the 21st century. We have seen shocking and inhuman untouchable practices in hundreds of South Indian villages. The most common insult to Dalits is at the doors of homes of upper castes and public temples. One positive change over the years is that Dalits from outside have entry into some temples and some homes. But native Dalits, in spite of improvement in their financial status, have to stand outside the homes of touchables and public temples. We have started ‘Gruhapravesh’ to invite Dalit brothers and sisters into the houses of upper caste people. Please join hands to make India an untouchability free nation.

Temple Entry

......

Objective of Temple entry is to secure the rights of Dalits. We are creating awareness among all communities to end discrimination in public places like Temples and Mutts. We have successfully convinced the Government of Karnataka to put up boards in front of temples with the message - this temple is open to all, irrespective of caste. With our efforts, people from upper castes have voluntarily invited Dalits into their homes and public temples. We are doing this work since 2014. We request you to take lead in making india untouchability free nation. Arivu Bharat has submitted a request to the Chief Minister of Karnataka, urging the cessation of untouchable practices in the temples of rural Karnataka. The state government has issued a strict directive to all district collectors to install boards in front of Muzrai temples. As a result, numerous temples in Karnataka have transformed into untouchability-free temples. Dr. M R Ravi has launched the second phase of board installations in front of Muzrai temples and has visited several villages to encourage Dalits to enter the temples.

I agree that every one has the right to equality and freedom, and inform the same to others. I treat all the people irrespective of caste equally in the matter of entry into homes, temples and other public places. And I make others conscious about all the untouchable practices and pledge to make India an untouchability free nation."

Of late, a social activities centre Arivu(meaning awareness), founded by Dr. Shivappa Arivu, a professor with Government College for Women in Kolar, has been working on a novel means of creating awareness against untouchability, and making possible entry of people from other castes (Dalits) into the houses of upper caste people.
